On 19th July for the second year, the streets of Moscow welcomed Bavaria’s City Races which saw F1 cars, supercars and many others flying by on a 4.5km track.  EER took the opportunity to interview the Marketing Director of Bavaria Beer, Mr Peer Swinkles and to ask him about the success of Bavaria in Russia.

On Thursday 25th June, the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business forum to discuss the past year’s trials and tribulations.  Given that a major global economic crisis has hit businesses across the globe, this business forum promised to be an important outlet for discussing how Russian-British business relations have been affected and whether any benefits will come out of the crisis.

Mrs Anne Pringle has taken over from Tony Brenton as British Ambassador to the Russian Federation and today gave a brief press conference to allow people to put a face to the name and to find out her plans for the future.

Designed to strengthen business ties between Great Britain and Russia, the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce Business Summit was this year held at the Institute of Directors on Pall Mall in London.  It bought together both leading Russo-British business men as well as those from some of the SME businesses that trade between Britain and Russia.   The day was split into 4 sessions each looking at a specific area of the Russian economy and how British and Russian companies interact in this marketplace.

In the September issues of our magazine, while summarizing the first two quarters of 2007 of the Rostov region external economic activity, we noted that the volume of foreign trade transactions of the Don region has been constantly and steadily rising, meanwhile there is a tangible negative balance (in favour of exports) of a temporary nature in the export-import structure of Don economy.

The only president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, wrote an article for The Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper about the recent presidential election in Russia. In the article Mr. Gorbachev expressed his opinion to alter the nation’s election system. He particularly offered to retrieve the direct gubernatorial elections and return to the mixed voting system during parliamentary elections.
